Starters

Ingredients
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 ounces butter or shortening, (4 tablespoons)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup milk
  • Sesame seeds
  • Poppy seeds
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter, (optional)
Directions
  • Preheat oven to 400°F.
  • Place the flour, sugar and salt in work bowl of food processor. Pulse a few times to mix. Add butter and pulse to mix in. Add egg and milk, process until a ball forms. Remove the dough from the work bowl and divide into three pieces.
  • Roll each piece out on a floured board until very thin. Sprinkle with sesame or poppy seeds and press into dough with rolling pin. Carefully roll dough onto rolling pin then unroll onto parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush with melted butter if desired.
  • Bake for about 6 to 8 minutes or until bubbles start developing. Reduce temperature to 275 degrees and let lavash dry and turn golden, about 12 to 15 minutes.
