What Chefs Eat

New iPhone app tells you what Hawaii’s top chefs eat on their nights off

It's probably one of the top questions asked of chefs: where do you like to eat? Now, there's a central location to find the answers to this question, all packaged in a convenient iPhone application--easy to browse and easy to access when you're out and about and hungry. It's kind of like being able to call Alan Wong or Roy Yamaguchi for a restaurant recommendation when you're on Keeaumoku looking for good grinds.

Tan Tan Char Siu Ramen at Goma Ichi: Roy Yamguchi's pick
Though there are a few high-end eateries on What Chefs Eat, the list is composed predominantly of mom-and-pop restaurants (like Ono Hawaiian Food, a favorite of Alan Wong and Roy Yamaguchi), late-night dives (i.e. Cafe Anasia, where you may find Jon Matsubara), and sushi bars and noodle joints. For many chefs, solace and sustenance at the end of a long night are often found in a bowl of noodles, from saimin to ramen to pho.

HanksHot dogs at Hank's Haute Dogs are recommended by many chefs, but Alan Wong says "the onion rings are killer."
And even if you're not hungry when you first download the app, chances are you will be, when you read Ed Kenney wax poetic about the char siu ramen at Goma Tei, or imagine the snappy-casing of Hank's Haute Dogs that make it to many of the chefs' lists.

What Chefs Eat will continue to expand with top picks from more chefs on Oahu and neighboring islands. In the meantime, What Chefs Eat already answers your question: what should we eat now?
