Mangoes at the Moana Recipe Contest Winners

Cakes, preserves and other good things

The first Mangoes at the Moana on July 11 saw a terrific turnout for the recipe contest, samplings of mango varieties, a demo by Chef de Cuisine Rodney Uyehara from the Beachhouse with his Pancetta-wrapped Onaga with a Mango Beurre Blanc sauce, and Wanda Adams, cool and collected even in the face of an overflowing mango upside-down cake. It’s still summer, and it’s still mango season, so if you find yourself with mangoes on hand, here are the winning recipes from the contest.

It was a fun and educational event. Unfortunately for the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place finishers, the organizers ignored one of their own rules, which was "no jams or jellies." Arbitrary and capricious - what a great way to run a contest.

No, I was not a contestant, but have been in the same situation and know what it feels like to play by the rules and lose to someone who didn't, only because the rules weren't enforced.
